Dr. Malini Varshney
I graduated from the University of Waterloo, Optometry in June 1987 & started my career at a medical clinic in Toronto with several physicians, dentists, chiropractors & other health care specialists. This provided me with exceptional experience in ocular emergencies & inter-office referrals. Upon moving to Burlington however, I decided to also work locally & started my practice at the Mapleview Centre in September 1990.
In 2009, I decided to relocate to the Halton Family Health Center, & pursue my career passion by again getting more involved in specialty testing & preventative eye health. This centre is an excellent co-management facility; the internal networking allows optimal patient care for those who have family doctors in the building as well & allows an excellent referral base for patients who appear to have medical ocular complications. Almost daily I see ocular emergencies from the walk-in clinic. I am now devoting more time on specialty services such as Dry Eye Treatment, Visual Therapy, Concussion Therapy & Low Vision Aids.
Dr. Gursharn Bering
I would like to introduce Dr. Bering to my practice, a new graduate from the University of Waterloo. Dr. Bering was born in Abbotsford, B.C. and grew up in Burlington, Ontario. She obtained her Honours Bachelor of Science degree at McMaster University, graduating Summa Cum Laude from the Biochemistry and Biomedical Sciences program in 2012. She then completed her Doctor of Optometry degree at the University of Waterloo, graduating with distinction in 2016.
Gursharn is passionate about providing quality eye care to patients of all ages. Her past experience includes a clinical rotation at the Lexington Veteran Affairs Medical Center in Kentucky, where she gained valuable experience specializing in ocular disease and therapeutics. She also has up-to date experience in Dry Eye Treatment, Visual Therapy & Concussion Therapy.
Dr. Bering is well acquainted with our office. She began job shadowing at our clinic while she was in Biochemistry at McMaster University, and then worked as a part-time Optometric Assistant for many years. While completing her studies at the University of Waterloo, she did a Primary Care Externship with me last year, and is the "perfect fit" to join my clinic.
Opthamologist MD FRCS
Also in my practice a specialist comes in to provide ophthalmological services when clinically indicated. This allows efficient in-office referral opportunities for patients that require more advanced medical, laser or surgical procedures in the event that an ocular condition escalates.
